biography

Most modern bands can attest to being on the pulse of the myriad of social and technological pandemic changes in todays world of music, whether that be Facebook, MySpace, Soundcloud etc. Some can even profess to being pioneers in this new medium. But I imagine few can claim to having been created, molded and maintained directly by it in such pragmatic terms as can Blancatransfer.
So what do i mean by this you say? Well, where do i begin!
After having moved to Madrid from Dublin and having tried out various different formations, lead singer/guitarist Derek Corr, had decided that was enough and had all but resolved to close up shop, say goodbye, "decir adios" to forming anymore bands, when "out of the blue" he was approached by session bass player Drew Kenndy on MySpace, who agreed to fly out to Madrid, Spain for a weekend of shows. This chance meeting went better than anyone could have imagined but it wasn't until Drew introduced drummer Ricky Ryan and sound engineer/soon to be Manager Andy Keane to Derek that the integral parts of the lineup would begin to form. When Drew departed to pursue other projects, Keith Colville, friend of Andy and Ricky, joined the band on bass completing the circle.
The trio, under the watchful eye of Andy in his Blueroom studios, began sending back and forth tracks by email and soundcloud to see what tracks would work. When it was time to rehearse the boys experimented by recording a backing track with Derek's voice and guitar on it and then rehearsing with that, while Derek would rehearse in Spain by himself using a similar process. When it came time to play a gig the pieces seemed to gel very naturally together and a method was born. That was 2009 and now jump to 2011 the band has a string of shows in both Spain and Ireland behind them and are currently hard at work recording new songs.
So it's really thanks to modern technology that this band exists, long distances made short, impossible rehearsals made possible etc. Thanks to new media this tight bond they share on stage brings together what is a very exciting live performance of euphony, technology, thoughtful songwriting and energy.
Blancatransfer are currently recording demos which will be coming to a social medium near you soon.
